About Divorce Lawyers on Long Island, NY

Complex divorce issues including the equitable distribution of marital property are often litigated by divorce lawyers on Long Island. Because the task of determining true marital assets and property can be overwhelming, many couples leverage qualified divorce lawyers to gain full disclosure. Divorce lawyers can help with locating all hidden assets or debts to determine which should be included in divorce proceedings and which ones should not.

Long Island is an island in the U.S. state of New York. Stretching northeastwards from New York Harbor into the Atlantic Ocean, Long Island contains four counties, two of which (Brooklyn and Queens) are boroughs of New York City,[2] and two of which are mainly suburban (Nassau and Suffolk). In popular usage, "Long Island" often refers only to Nassau and Suffolk counties in order to differentiate them from New York City, although all four counties are situated on the island and are part of the New York metropolitan area. With a Census-estimated population of 7,686,912 in 2012,[4][5][6][7] Long Island is the most populated island in any U.S. state or territory, and the 17th-most populous island in the world (ahead of Ireland, Jamaica, and Hokkaidō). Its population density is 5,402 inhabitants per square mile (2,086 /km2). Nine bridges and 13 tunnels (including railroad tunnels) connect Brooklyn and Queens (and thus Long Island) to the three other boroughs of New York City. Ferries connect Suffolk County northward across Long Island Sound to the state of Connecticut.

As no two people are alike, neither are any two families, or legal matters involving family situations. Financial implications vary. The degree of psychological and emotional trauma may differ. There may be other legal issues and personal ramifications to be considered. Since 1985, the Law Offices of Russell I. Marnell, P.C. has realized this. Concentrating on complex divorce and family law, our firm has litigated many cases to Court decision, including those involving orders of protection, child abuse and neglect.

Most experienced matrimonial attorneys charge a consultation fee. The primary reason we charge a consultation fee is to prevent your spouse from "attorney shopping" i.e. if your spouse were to meet with several top attorneys, you would be precluded from retaining any of the attorneys yourself. This tactic is called "poisoning the well."

Consultations typically last one to two hours during which you will receive our undivided attention.
