About Equitable Distribution in Huntington, NY

Equitable distribution of marital property in Huntington, NY, is the distribution during a divorce, of all the assets a couple acquired during their marriage. Because the task of determining true marital assets and property can be overwhelming, many couples leverage family law attorneys to gain full disclosure. In some complex divorce cases, spouses have been found to secretly withhold assets to avoid having to equitably share them.

Huntington is one of ten towns in Suffolk County, New York, United States. Founded in 1653,[1] it is located on the north shore of Long Island in northwestern Suffolk County, with Long Island Sound to its north and Nassau County adjacent to the west. In 1653, three men from Oyster Bay, Richard Holbrook, Robert Williams and Daniel Whitehead, purchased a parcel of land from the Matinecock tribe. The three men immediately turned the land over to the white settlers who had already been living there.[2] From that initial settlement, Huntington grew over subsequent years to include all of the land presently comprising the modern Towns of Huntington and Babylon. The southern part of the town was formally separated to create Babylon in 1872.[2] Because Huntington was populated largely by English settlers, unlike the rest of the New Amsterdam colony, the town voted in 1660 to become part of the Connecticut colony rather than remain under the authority of New Amsterdam. It was not until the British gained control of New Amsterdam in 1664 (renaming it New York) that Huntington was formally restored to the jurisdiction of New York.

As no two people are alike, neither are any two families, or legal matters involving family situations. Financial implications vary. The degree of psychological and emotional trauma may differ. There may be other legal issues and personal ramifications to be considered. Since 1985, the Law Offices of Russell I. Marnell, P.C. has realized this. Concentrating on complex divorce and family law, our firm has litigated many cases to Court decision, including those involving orders of protection, child abuse and neglect.

Most experienced matrimonial attorneys charge a consultation fee. The primary reason we charge a consultation fee is to prevent your spouse from "attorney shopping" i.e. if your spouse were to meet with several top attorneys, you would be precluded from retaining any of the attorneys yourself. This tactic is called "poisoning the well."

Consultations typically last one to two hours during which you will receive our undivided attention.
