Two Female Soccer Stars Marry in High Profile Wedding

Ashlyn Harris and Ali Krieger, two high profile female soccer players, were married in late December in a high-profile wedding that is being celebrated as both a time of personal joy for them, as well as a landmark moment in the advancement of LGBTQ rights. Their engagement was first revealed in March 2019, and quickly became a major news story, even outside the world of soccer. Both play for the Orlando Pride in the National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) and have played for the United States national women’s soccer team.

They have reportedly known each other since they met at training camp in 2010, where they became close friends fairly quickly. The two began to date secretly, for fear of losing endorsements or causing a scandal, although rumors of their relationship floated around the soccer world for years before they publicly came out. Finally, however, after nearly a decade of dating, Ashlyn proposed to Ali in March, to which she gladly said “yes.”

The wedding ceremony, which took place on December 28, 2020, started off a party that lasted the entire weekend. The entire Orlando Pride was invited, as were the members of the United States national women’s soccer team, recalling their remarkably successful year on the international stage along with the formal union of the happy couple. At the moment, the US women’s soccer team is considered the most successful women’s soccer team in the world, with four Women’s World Cup titles, four Olympic gold medals, and eight CONCACAF Gold Cups.
